Is my text saved or sent anywhere?
No. All text processing happens entirely in your browser. The text you type or paste is never transmitted over the network, never saved to any server, and never stored in localStorage or cookies. Once you close the tab, the text is gone permanently.
How is word count calculated?
Words are counted by splitting the text on whitespace (spaces, tabs, and line breaks). Empty entries are excluded, so leading/trailing spaces and multiple consecutive spaces do not affect the count. The count includes all words, regardless of length.
How is character count calculated?
We provide two character counts. Characters (with spaces) counts every character in the text including spaces, line breaks, and punctuation. Characters (no spaces) excludes all whitespace characters. Both counts include all Unicode characters, not just ASCII.
How is reading time calculated?
Reading time is estimated by dividing the total word count by an average reading speed. The default silent reading speed is 200 words per minute, and the default speaking speed is 130 words per minute. You can adjust both values on the Reading Time Calculator page to better match your personal pace.
How is sentence count calculated?
Sentences are detected by splitting text on standard sentence-ending punctuation: periods (.), exclamation marks (!), and question marks (?), followed by a space or the end of the text. While this works well for most English prose, certain edge cases like abbreviations (e.g., "Dr.") may cause slight inaccuracies.
How is paragraph count calculated?
Paragraphs are detected by splitting text on blank lines (one or more empty lines). A single block of text with no blank lines counts as one paragraph. An empty text area counts as zero paragraphs.
Do I need to create an account?
No. This tool is completely free and requires no sign-up, no login, and no registration of any kind. Just open the page and start using it immediately.
Does this tool work on mobile?
Yes. The entire site is responsive and works on phones, tablets, and desktop browsers. The text area and stats display adapt to your screen size automatically.
Is there a word or character limit?
No. There is no hard limit on the amount of text you can enter. However, very large inputs (hundreds of thousands of words) may cause your browser to slow down slightly since all processing happens on your device.
Can I use this tool offline?
The tool requires an internet connection to load the page initially, but once loaded, all text processing happens locally in your browser. If you keep the page open, you can continue using it even if your connection drops — no server round-trips are needed for the counting functionality.
